Systems integrators, OEMs and VARs faced with adding touch technology to monitors used in point-of-sale (POS), process and industrial control, and instrumentation applications now have a solution to the light transmission problem that often comes when using standard curved touchscreens.
Elo TouchSystems, the world leader in touch technology, announces an AccuTouch HL™ FST curved touchscreen that increases light transmission by 36 percent, resulting in total light transmission of 75 percent, the highest in the industry for curved five-wire resistive touchscreens. This increase brightens colors, provides greater clarity and prevents fading and dulling of colors and images. The new touchscreen works particularly well with the newer black matrix monitors.
“By increasing light transmission, the AccuTouch HL touchscreen solves the low light transmission problem better than any other curved product,” said Scott Smith, product manager for AccuTouch Standard Products group. “This is an important solution for users requiring curved resistive touchscreens.”
Improved Screen Coating
The AccuTouch HL touchscreen also features a harder, more scratch-resistant coating. The polyester cover sheet that is part of the touchscreen is treated with an enhanced hard-coat that provides much greater resistance to scratches and wear.
“The new hard coat provides a 3H hardness rating, a ten-fold improvement in fingernail scratch resistance when measured against older hard coat technologies,” said Smith.
The new AccuTouch HL stands up to wear and tear in other ways, as well. It is tested to greater than 35 million touches with a finger-type stylus and can be sealed against contaminants. The touchscreen also resists moisture, dirt, vinegar-based food products and ammonia-based cleaning products that are sometimes used on touch monitors in retail, restaurant, and industrial environments.
The AccuTouch HL touchscreen retains operational stability despite environmental factors that can cause drift—an inaccurate response to a touch. Electromagnetic fields generated by near-by power supplies, humidity and temperature fluctuations, or the body capacitance of the user do not affect the touchscreen adversely. The lightest touch results in an accurate response in fewer than seven milliseconds.
The new AccuTouch HL curved touchscreen is available in 15-, 17- and 21-inch sizes. Pricing begins at $645 for a 15-inch screen with PC-Bus controller. Volume discounts are available. AccuTouch HL touchscreens are also available in flat configurations.
